America Travel Insurance Tips
3 Cities to Visit and Get the Flavor of America
Although America may be world-famous for its fast-food industry, it is arguably as good as any other country when it comes to fine cuisine. Check out these three cities that offer tourists a taste of America, as well as a bit of France, Greece and Italy.
New York City
New York City is a haven for all food lovers. However, it is particularly generous to those who enjoy meat-filled dishes.² If you have a taste for authentic Italian cuisine, Grimaldi’s and Lombardi’s are known for baking some of the finest pizzas outside Naples, Italy. Pizza bianca is served by the square at Sullivan St. Bakery, while some of the finest Roman trattorias outside Rome can be found in Greenwich Village. Being the cultural melting pot that it is, New York provides diners with just about every culinary experience imaginable–from curry and chow mein to pastrami sandwiches and hot dogs.
Portland is well worth a visit to capture the ‘true’ flavor of America. The city is able to compete with the world’s leading meccas for foodies, primarily because of its rich local produce.³ A popular place for vegetarians and vegans, Portland offers all kinds of nuts, berries and vegetables. The city happens to be located just outside Willamette Valley, which produces world-famous wines such as Pinot Noir.4
Finally, no food-oriented trip to the United States would be complete without a stay in Chicago, where hot dogs and beef sandwiches are among the most popular culinary delight. Mexican food is also popular in Chicago, as are Greek and Polish dishes. Many people argue that Chicago is the only place in America that knows how to make a great pizza.² Italy and New York would naturally disagree, but Chicago-made pizza is undoubtedly special.
