An Atlas Travel Insurance Customer Shares Her Trip to EgyptArticle filed under: HCC Medical Insurance Services Blog
Allison Carter, an Atlas Travel Insurance customer, recently fulfilled a long-time desire to visit Egypt. This blog post, the first in a series, details her experience in her own words. You can also find video of her story at the HCCMIS YouTube channel. If you have travelled abroad with coverage from one of our products, and want to share your stories, we encourage you to leave a comment.
From Allison Carter,
I distinctly remember the first time I learned about Egypt. I was in second grade, and our end of the year pageant was all about Egypt. Dressed in a safari outfit, complete with pith helmet, I acted as narrator, regaling the crowd of bored parents with stories about the glories of the pharaohs. Ever since then, I’ve been hooked. For me, Egypt had it all: an ancient legacy, an intriguingly bizarre mythology, and the fun scariness of mummies. My mom always felt the same way, and it’s been a long-standing promise that when I graduated college, we’d be off to Egypt.
It almost didn’t happen. After graduation, job concerns of various stripes delayed the trip, but we finally had it all set: we would head off in June of 2011. Everything was in place, and we were ready to go.
Then Revolution happened.
When it was over, we were overjoyed, but there was still the nagging question: will we be able to go?
We made a pact: if the group we were traveling with held the trip, we’d be on it. After some shuffling of schedules, the date was set, our bags were packed. The trip was on.
Watching the flight map on the 11-hour flight from JFK to Cairo, we flew over the path of the Arab Spring, places like Algiers, Tunis, and Benghazi passing beneath our wings. Had we made the right decision?
Then we saw them, far below us, rising out of the desert like jewels. The Pyramids of Giza.
Oh yes. We’d made the right decision.
