Posted by on in Study Abroad

Studying abroad is a unique opportunity for college students to live and learn outside the United States. While these programs are available all over the world, they can be very expensive, and paying for them is often a challenge. If you are looking to study abroad, be sure to check out these scholarship opportunities that could cover part- or all- of your study abroad experience.

The Fulbright Scholarship Program

One of the most well-known scholarship programs around, the Fulbright Scholarship, sponsored by the United States Government, offers extensive funding for applicants chosen by the J. William Fulbright Scholarship Board. These awards can cover 100% of study abroad costs.

Since 1961, this program has worked in conjunction with the State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. embassies, commissions in host countries, and the Department of Education. The program is competitive and has strict guidelines, awarding roughly 2,800 scholarships to United States students each year.

Rotary Club Scholarships

Local chapters of Rotary International award scholarships each year. As the scholarships are awarded by a local organization, odds are much better than programs that accept applicants nationwide. Most chapters award about $1,000 per selected student.

Rotary International offers youth exchange programs in addition to traditional study abroad program scholarships.

The organization offers over $800,000 in grants and scholarships each year, with most grants ranging from $200-$1,500. They do offer some full-scholarships, however, as well as half-scholarships and $5,000 awards.
