Traveling to the U.S. from Indonesia on a nonimmigrant visa is an experience you will never forget. From seeing new places, to meeting new people, and experiencing a new culture, you will have the opportunity to create so many wonderful memories. However, before you can start doing all of those things, you will have to go through the process of obtaining a visa.
This process can be overwhelming at times and somewhat intimidating at first, but after you review what is required and know the steps involved, the process will be much easier. You should also know that before you travel to the U.S., the transition between Indonesian culture and the culture of the U.S. can be a little challenging. There are differences in everyday life that you will notice right away, and the best way to cope with these differences is to be prepared to meet them. So, before you start the visa application process and before you leave home, make sure you know and understand how everything works.
Before you can ever leave your home country, you will need to obtain a U.S. visa. Though the visa process may appear complicated at first, once you read through all of the steps and understand what is needed, it’s not that complex. Like all things, you must start at the beginning, and the first thing you will need to do is figure out what type of visa is applicable to your situation.
After you have determined which visa you need to apply for, it is time to start the actual application. In order to get the process started, you will need to fill out and submit form DS-160, which is the online nonimmigrant visa application. Once you have completed the application, it is time to schedule a visa interview. In order to actually obtain your visa, you must attend a visa interview with a consular officer. To schedule the interview you will need to first locate the closest embassy or consulate office.
Before you attend your visa interview, there are several documents and supporting information you will want to gather prior to your interview. You can apply for a visa in Surabaya or Jakarta, and you can schedule your interview online. The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta keeps visa interview wait times available on their website so you can plan in advance on how long it may take to process your application and be ready for an interview. Qualified applications are also able to be reissued visas without another interview if they are qualified applicants as part of the U.S.-Indonesian Comprehensive Partnership. The U.S. Department of State also provides you with visa processing wait time and wait times for your interview. Plan ahead to make sure you can obtain your visa by the necessary date.
These documents are used during the interview with the consular officer to determine if you are eligible for a visa. You will want to make sure you have all of these documents with you when you go to the interview.
