Why do I need visitor insurance?

Medical care in the U.S. is among the most costly in the world—even for its own residents. The Affordable Care Act (ACA), signed in 2010, was enacted to make health care more affordable, accessible, and of a higher quality for U.S. citizens. Many visitors to the U.S. misinterpret the law, and believe the ACA made healthcare free in the U.S. Not only is this incorrect, but non-U.S. citizens are not eligible to purchase ACA-compliant coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace.

Additionally, your medical insurance will most likely not travel with you. According to the U.S. Department of State, many medical providers do not cover medical costs outside your home country—meaning an unexpected injury or illness during your time in the U.S. could mean thousands of dollars in medical bills.

That’s where Atlas Travel visitor insurance comes into play. In order to receive quality, affordable healthcare while visiting the U.S., travelers will need visitors insurance coverage.
