|What is a visa?|
|A visa is document placed in your passport that allows you to enter the United States. There are many categories of immigrant and nonimmigrant visas, including student, business, family, and work visas. Each type of visa serves its own purpose.|
|Which visa is right for me?|
|Determining which visa is right for you depends solely on your purpose of traveling to the U.S. If your visit is for business, or work temporarily you will need a visa that allows you to conduct business or work for a temporary time period. If you plan to study in the U.S., you need a Student visa If you are traveling to the US for pleasure then you will need a visitors visa. You may live in one of 36 countries that qualify for the visa waiver program, which would mean that you do not need a visa to enter the U.S.|
|How do I apply for a visitor visa?|
|The easiest way to apply for a nonimmigrant visa is to use the DS-160: Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application. The online application process is an application form that collects all of the necessary application information from a person seeking a nonimmigrant visa. If you cannot apply online, then you should contact the closest embassy, consulate or diplomatic mission to find out the best way to begin your application process. A list of embassies, consulates and diplomatic missions is provided by the U.S. Department of State. After you have submitted your application, you will sign up for an interview with a Consular Officer.|
|When should I apply for a visitor visa?|
|According to the U.S. Department of State, you should apply for your visa at least 90 days prior to your desired travel date, as regulations require that visas be issued within a 90-day period. Your visa will not be issued more than 120 days before the date you need it, but you can always apply early to be safe.|
|Where do I sign up for a visa interview to get a visitor visa?|
|To sign up for an interview, you must find the embassy, consulate or diplomatic mission that is closest to you. The U.S. Department of State provides a list of all the U.S. embassies, consulates and diplomatic missions around the world. From the list provided, you can find the website for your nearest interview location, which will contain contact information and instructions for arranging an interview. |How long does it take to get a visitor visa?|
|Applying for a visa can be a long and, in some cases, difficult process. There is no easy formula for calculating the length of time it will take for you to receive your visa. After your interview with a Consular Officer, there is a wait time for your application and interview to be processed. The wait time for your visa to be processed is very similar to the wait time for an interview; it could take only a day, but the process can also take several days, depending on your local U.S. embassy. The processing wait time does not include extra administrative processing. The U.S. Department of State reserves the right to take an extra 60 days to process your visa. This administrative processing is done on a case-by-case basis. Because of the extra 60 days, it can take up to 90 days before you finally receive your visa.|
|Do children need their own visas?|
|Yes, all visitors to the United States are required to hold a visa. Some visitors are eligible for entry without a visa (such as those coming from a Visa Waiver Program nation), but age is not a factor in determining entry requirements.|
Visitor Visa Insurance Questions
|When should I purchase visitor's insurance?|
|If you are a person who enjoys planning your travel, you can purchase Atlas America® visitors insurance before your trip. If you make last-minute travel plans, you are not required to purchase Atlas America before you depart your home country, unlike many competitors' travel medical policies and traditional travel insurance. You can purchase at the airport or after you arrive in the U.S. and receive the same great travel medical coverage with visitor insurance! You should purchase visitor insurance only after being certain of your travel plans (having the passport/visa papers and the airline tickets in order). It is a good idea to select an effective date for your visitor insurance coverage for the date of departure from your native country.|
|Can I cancel my visitor's insurance if I am denied a visitor visa?|
|You can cancel Atlas America for any reason before the effective date and receive a full premium refund. After the effective date, there is a $25.00 USD cancellation charge. However, the unused portion of your premium will be refunded to the method of purchase, provided no claims have been filed.|
|Can I buy visitor's insurance while I am outside the U.S.|
|Yes, you can purchase visitors insurance while you are outside the U.S. Get a quote and purchase online here!|
|Is there a discount on visitor's insurance?|
|While there is no discount with Atlas America® insurance, groups of five or more can purchase Atlas Group® insurance and receive a 10% discount.|
|What documents will I receive showing I bought visitor's insurance?|
|In addition to your policy confirmation and receipt of purchase, those who buy Atlas America are provided with a “visa letter” verifying coverage which shows: the visa holder's name, passport information, length of stay, and medical coverage maximums. When you purchase visitor health insurance from HCCMIS, you will also be given an Atlas America identification card for when you seek care from a hospital or doctor so that the doctor or hospital can bill HCCMIS directly for your medical expenses.|
|What does the visitor “visa letter” provided by HCCMIS include?|
|If you are traveling to the U.S. and need to show proof of insurance to obtain a visitor’s visa, you will need to take the Atlas America insurance visa letter. The visa letter shows that you have Atlas America insurance with HCCMIS, your effective date, home and destination countries, passport number, citizenship, and Atlas America maximum coverage amounts in United States Dollars (USD) and Euros. This document is available in the Client Zone at any time and automatically updates if you extend your policy to show your new termination date.|
|If I purchase visitor's insurance like Atlas America® when does my insurance become effective?|
|Atlas America is effective as of the date paid, and you are guaranteed coverage. This means you can purchase the policy online and receive instant confirmation and your insurance fulfillment documents to your email within minutes.|
|Does Atlas America® visitor's insurance cover pregnancy?|
|Atlas America covers complications of pregnancy during the first 26 weeks of gestation. Read more about the Complications of Pregnancy benefit in the Atlas America description of coverage.|
|Are pre-existing conditions covered by visitors insurance?|
|Atlas America covers the acute onset of a pre-existing condition only. This benefit allows up to a $100,000 lifetime maximum for eligible medical expenses and a $25,000 lifetime maximum for emergency medical evacuation. This benefit is only available to members younger than 70.|
|What is a pre-existing medical condition, as specified in the Atlas America® benefits?|
|Any (1) condition for which medical advice, diagnosis, care, or treatment (includes receiving services and supplies, consultations, diagnostic tests or prescription medicines) was recommended or received during the 2 years immediately preceding the Certificate Effective Date; (2) condition that had manifested itself in such a manner that would have caused a reasonably prudent person to seek medical advice, diagnosis, care, or treatment (includes receiving services and supplies, consultations, diagnostic tests or prescription medicines) within the 2 years immediately preceding the Certificate Effective Date; (3) injury, illness, sickness, disease, or other physical, medical, mental, or nervous conditions, disorder or ailment (whether known or unknown) that, with reasonable medical certainty, existed at the time of application or within the 2 years immediately preceding the Certificate Effective Date. For the purposes of the Complications of Pregnancy coverage offered hereunder, Pregnancy will not be included within the definition of a Pre-existing Condition.|
|Do I have to call HCCMIS before I visit the doctor?|
|Pre-certification is required for a number of medical procedures. Pre-certification means that HCCMIS® is notified as soon as possible before these types of medical treatments are undertaken. Pre-certification does not mean that those procedures are non-eligible expenses. With Atlas America insurance, inpatient care, surgical procedures, extended care facility placement, home nursing care, durable medical equipment, artificial limbs, Computerized Tomography (CAT scans), and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) require that you notify HCCMIS to ensure full coverage of eligible medical expenses.|
|How do I file a claim?|
Many U.S. providers will bill HCCMIS directly for your medical treatment. However, always verify with your provider how billing is handled by their office. If you are submitting a claim for reimbursement, you can post, fax, or email this information to our office:
1. A signed and completed Claimant’s Statement and Authorization form
The claimant’s statement form is available online. If you are submitting multiple claims, you will need a claimant’s statement for each medical condition for which you received treatment. If you are submitting for multiple family members, you will need one claimant’s statement for each family member.
2. Original itemized bills from your physicians, hospital or other medical provider.
If you are not sure if you have an itemized bill, check to see if it contains details about your medical condition and itemized charges for your treatment in addition to a summed total for the cost of your medical care.
3. Original receipts for expenses that have already been paid by you or on your behalf.
HCCMIS requires receipts to document that we are to reimburse you, rather than the provider directly for your medical treatment. You have sixty days from the termination date of your policy to submit a claim for reimbursement.
|How can I get more ID cards for my visitor's insurance?|
|You can obtain additional ID cards online in the Client Zone.|
|Can I extend my visitor's insurance if it expired yesterday?|
|No, but you can purchase a new Atlas America policy for the remainder of your visit to the U.S.|
|Is visitor's insurance renewable?|
|Atlas America® can be extended for up to 12 months of coverage. If you only purchased one week or three months of coverage and then decide to stay longer, you will want to extend your Atlas America insurance in the Client Zone. The option to “extend coverage” will appear as the first option in the Client Zone, and you will simply indicate the period you would like to extend your coverage until up to a twelve-month period and provide a valid credit card. Your coverage will be extended and your visa letter and ID card updated to reflect your new coverage period. You are not able to continue the same Atlas America insurance policy past the twelve month certificate period. You will need to purchase a new Atlas America insurance policy.|
