Stopping on a Zip Line
If you have never before gotten a chance to try out zip lining, do not worry; it is pretty simple. Once you get up into the canopy, your guides will make sure you are safe and ready for the jump. Once you are out on the line, however, you will not have much time to think. Here are a few zip lining tips for stopping when you are at the end of the rope:
How to Stop on a Zip Line
- Friction – In this technique, zip liners use friction by pulling against the cable.
- Gloves – Thick gloves made especially for zip lining can be used to stop yourself while on the line.
- A Mat – At the end of the line, mats and nets are sometimes used to stop the zip liner. Talk about an abrupt stop!
- Arrester System – These systems use springs, pulleys, counterweights, and bungee cords to stop the rider, and make stopping automatic.
