Why Do I Need
Group Travel Medical Insurance?

Whether you’re planning to partake in a leisurely getaway, mission trip, student trip, or business venture abroad, group travel presents an opportunity to see the world and take care of business while splitting travel costs.

However, it’s wise to consider the unpredictable issues that might occur, such as travel delays, injuries, and illnesses.

Here are four reasons to consider group travel medical insurance for your trip abroad:

1. Your group could face a travel mishap, accident, or sickness that calls for global insurance coverage. Overseas vacations can expose travelers to new environments, unfamiliar foods, and foreign bacteria. Group travel medical insurance can cover eligible hospitalizations, surgery, travel delays, trip interruptions, and other expenses required to get your group back on track.

2. Your regular health insurance may not cover you outside of your home country. That’s why the U.S. Department of State recommends that you “ask your medical insurance company if your policy applies overseas – and if it covers emergency expenses such as medical evacuation.” If it doesn’t, group travel medical insurance can provide the international coverage you need.

3. Your visa may require travel medical insurance or proof that you’ll be able to pay for unexpected expenses incurred in your host country. Our Atlas Group plan meets the requirements of many visas, including Europe’s Schengen visa. Atlas Group also provides policyholders a visa letter you can use to help prove your ability to pay for unexpected medical expenses.

4. A group travel medical insurance policy can save you money. Our Atlas Group insurance plan offers the same benefits and services of our popular Atlas Travel plan at a 10% reduced rate for groups of 5 or more.

How Do Atlas Group

Benefits Work In Action?

See examples of how a group travel medical insurance plan like Atlas Group can provide coverage for your group trip abroad.

  • One of your group members purchases food from a local street vendor that results in a serious bout
of food poisoning and requires inpatient hospitalization.

Medical emergencies are scary enough when you’re in your home country, let alone a foreign country where you’re unfamiliar with the healthcare system–and you may not even speak the language.

With a group travel medical insurance policy like Atlas Group, the traveler requiring inpatient hospitalization will be covered for the cost of emergency local ambulance transport to the hospital as well as daily hospital room and board for eligible treatment.

They’ll also have coverage for all other eligible medical expenses, which may include physician charges, diagnostic testing, and more.

Additionally, your entire group will have access to provider referrals, translation services, and other travel assistance services. These services are available in multiple languages 365 days a year.

  • Your mission group is helping to build a school in a remote region of Africa when you fall off a ladder
    and become seriously injured.

You’re taken to the nearest medical facility for treatment, but the local facility does not have the equipment required to provide the medically necessary treatment.

Fortunately, Atlas Group’s Emergency Medical Evacuation benefit can pay up to $1,000,000 to transport you via air or ground transportation to the nearest hospital properly equipped to treat you and save your life or limb.

  • Your group has just touched down in your destination when you receive the devastating news that a
member of your immediate family has passed away. You decide to return home as quickly as possible.

Your Trip Interruption benefit can cover up to $10,000 for the cost of an economy, one-way plane ticket to return you to your home country so you can be with your family.

  • After arriving at the airport for your initial departure, bad storms cause your group’s evening flight to be
    delayed until the following morning.

Rather than staying at the airport overnight, your group decides to get a warm meal and a couple of hotel rooms. Under Atlas Group’s Travel Delay benefit, each group member will be reimbursed up to $100 a day for reasonable accommodations and meals incurred as a result of your covered, 12-plus hour delay.

  • After an important business meeting abroad, you return to your rental to discover it’s been broken into
and your luggage has been stolen.

You have no idea how to go about acquiring a new passport and the language barrier is making it difficult for you to file a police report.

Thankfully, your Atlas Group policy provides access to travel assistance services available in multiple languages 365 days a year. Our operators can provide you with travel, legal, and foreign language assistance and help you to obtain a new passport and travel documents.

Your Lost or Stolen Passport/Travel Visa benefit will also reimburse you, up to $100, for expenses due to replacing your lost or stolen passport or travel visa. You must report the loss or theft to police within 24 hours and obtain a police report to be eligible for this benefit.
