Busy Summer Travel + Hurricane Season:
Let’s Prepare for the Unexpected Together

Protect Your Summer Trip with WorldTrips®

Trip planning, while exciting, can be stress-inducing. Compound that with airlines reporting one of the busiest travel seasons since 2019 AND hurricane season... It can be a lot to manage.

Checking the travel insurance box when booking a flight or vacation rental is easy enough, but it can make things very complicated - especially if a trip needs to be canceled due to a named hurricane.

We can't prevent travel mishaps from occurring, but buying one comprehensive travel protection plan through one company to cover a whole trip can help things go more smoothly in the event of trip disruptions.

WorldTrips' Atlas Journey® trip protection plans are designed for U.S. travelers seeking domestic coverage and coverage abroad. Check out prices by starting a quote for your trip today!

You can get coverage for your entire trip, including your flights, accommodations, and covered medical expenses when purchasing a WorldTrips plan. This shouldn't stop you from being prepared for the potential inclement weather...

It is crucial to still have a checklist, reminders, and a secure plan in place, in the event of a hurricane. Be sure to sign up for local alerts or keep an eye out for any updates from news channels around your desired destination. Watch the video below for Erin's story and how she learned a valuable lesson about insurance and what can happen during hurricane season.

Travel confidently with WorldTrips.

Quick Facts, Tips, and Advice:

Sometimes hurricanes can be called typhoons and vice versa...

  • North Atlantic and northeast Pacific = Hurricanes and tropical storms.
  • Northwest Pacific = Typhoons.

If you think you may be affected by a hurricane, be sure to follow these tips from our partners at On Call International:

  • If you have been ordered to evacuate by local authorities, do so immediately - but be sure to keep loved ones informed of where you are going (and let them know when you've safely arrived.)
  • If you have not been recommended to evacuate, plan to take shelter where you are.
  • Know the best way to stay informed, whether through local contact, the local news, or an alert system.
  • Check to see if your community (or the community you're traveling through) offers text or email-based emergency alerts and notifications.
  • Be advised that local services, local public and private transport, communications, and even basic supplies may be difficult to access.
  • Ensure that you are stocked up on food, water, and medications.
  • Ensure that your cell phone and any other communication devices are fully charged. Whenever possible, restrict calls to emergency use only to help you save battery.
  • Plan how you're going to communicate if you lose power. (In a hurricane, a text message may be faster and more reliable than a phone call, as phone lines are easily overloaded.)
  • Avoid walking or driving through flood waters and inundated areas.
  • Watch out for debris and downed power lines.

Unfortunately, at this time there are no plans available for residents of your state who are traveling within the U.S.

Certain types of expenses are excluded from coverage under Atlas Journey travel insurance. Some exclusions are listed below. Please refer to the full policy documents for your chosen plan and state of residency for a complete list of conditions and exclusions.

Some Exclusions:

  • Charges resulting from a *pre-existing condition - unless you qualify for a waiver of the pre-existing condition exclusion (note that the pre-existing condition exclusion does not apply to the Emergency Medical Evacuation benefit or Repatriation of Remains benefit)
  • Traveling against the advice of a physician
  • Treatment for mental, nervous, or psychological disorders (unless hospitalized for 72 hours or more for the condition while your policy is in effect)
  • Participating as a member of a team in an organized sports competition or as a sporting professional
  • Participating in bodily contact sports, extreme sports, and certain adventure sports excluded under your policy (unless the sport is covered under the optional Adventure Sports upgrade and you've elected to add this coverage to your plan)

*Pre-existing condition means an illness, disease, or other condition during the 90-day period immediately prior to your effective date of coverage for which you:

  1. received a test, examination, or medical treatment;
  2. received a recommendation for a test, examination, or medical treatment; or
  3. took or received a prescription for drugs or medicine.

Item (3) above does not apply to a condition which is treated or controlled solely through the taking of prescription medication and remains treated or controlled without any adjustment or **change in the required prescription throughout the 90-day period before your coverage effective date.

**Change in required prescription means the dosage or frequency of a medication has been increased, reduced, stopped, and/or new medications have been prescribed due to the worsening of an underlying condition that's being treated with the medication, unless the change is:

  1. between a brand name and a generic medication with comparable dosage; or
  2. an adjustment to insulin or anti-coagulant dosage.
