Rock Scrambling Insurance
Are you taking a trip soon? You should look into travel medical insurance before you leave home!
Your hands have small cuts all over them, and it is getting hard to grip the rock. You wipe the sweat from your forehead – you can finally see the top. As you take a quick break in your rock scrambling, you look down just to see how far you have come and how far you have left. As you push on in your climb you keep telling yourself that you are almost there, almost done.
Before you leave home to scramble up all those rocks, make sure your insurance will keep you protected as you travel and climb. Many domestic insurance plans will not follow you as you travel, especially overseas, so you should look into travel insurance and rock scrambling insurance. Atlas Travel® insurance from HCC Medical Insurance Services (HCCMIS) can provide you with coverage for both. Having an Atlas Travel plan can help you avoid high medical bills that result from rock scrambling accidents.
While many insurance companies charge extra to cover extreme sports, Atlas Travel insurance includes coverage for rock scrambling injuries that occur while abroad at no additional charge. We offer several different Atlas Travel plans depending on your destination for fell walking and how many are in your group. Atlas America® is designed for those whose travel includes the U.S. or Canada. If you are traveling outside of the U.S., we have Atlas International® insurance. Traveling with a group? If you have 5 or more in your group, you should check out Atlas Group® for a discounted rate!
Rock Scrambling Classification System
Almost every country has its own system for classifying the level of difficulty of mountain climbing, hiking, and rock scrambling. Narrowing down all the systems into one can be difficult, but there is a general consensus for classifying rock scrambling routes. The system is broken down into three separate classes:
- Easy - Often, rock-scrambling routes that are classified as 'easy' are simple off-trail hiking routes. However, you should also expect to use your hands occasionally as you attempt these scrambles.
- Moderate - Before you attempt a moderate route, you should have some basic skills in finding paths, which can help you as you climb. You should also expect to use your hands constantly as you climb.
- Difficult - If you attempt a 'difficult' rock scramble, you should have route-finding skills. 'Difficult' scrambles will require constant handholds, and you should be aware that these scrambles will be much higher than those of the moderate and easy levels.
